Lloyd’s of London Denied Coverage for Bill Paxton

Lloyd’s of London is the insurance company that many celebrities turn to when they need a specialized, unique, type of insurance coverage. It seems that the insurer doesn’t cover absolutely everything, though. They turned down Bill Paxton when he requested life insurance coverage for an underwater voyage to the actual Titanic. Lloyd’s of London has become well known for the variety of bizarre insurance policies that they have issued. In the 1940’s executives at Twentieth Century Fox went to Lloyd’s of London for a policy that would cover actress Betty Grable’s legs. Each leg was insured for $1 million. In … Continue reading

Last Titanic Survivor Dies

Elizabeth Gladys “Millvina” Dean, the last remaining survivor of the Titanic, died today at the age of 97 in a private nursing home in Ashurst, England where she was living. Millvina didn’t have any personal memories of the sinking of the Titanic, the doomed luxury passenger liner. That is because at the time, she was just nine weeks old. She was on the Titanic with her mother Georgette, father Bertram Frank, and brother Bertram. While Millvina, Georgette, and Bertram survived, her father was among the 1,500 that died on April 14, 1912. The family was headed to Kansas to start … Continue reading

A Year to Remember

I don’t know where it went, but this month I’m celebrating my year anniversary being a Marriage Blogger. Confessions Last year, then managing editor, Heather Long, sent out a notice asking us bloggers if we’d be interested in either changing categories or adding on to any existing ones. I saw Marriage was one she was looking to staff. I’d guest blogged there a couple of times. I was interested in challenging myself. I asked if in addition to Pets I could also be assigned to Marriage. I alternated between jubilation and panic when her answer was, “Yes.” Okay, my wish … Continue reading

Remembering Titanic: What Would You Have Done?

Back in November when Wayne and I went to visit our families for Thanksgiving, we had the opportunity to see “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Being a fan of the 1997 movie, I was very psyched to see this exhibit. I’d heard nothing but raves about it from others who’d seen it when it’d been in Florida. It proved as amazing as everyone said. From the recreated passenger cabins (both first class and third) to the grand staircase to the many artifacts recovered from the bottom of the North Atlantic I couldn’t help … Continue reading
